Exceptions include short-term travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, and some countries in the Caribbean where a U.S. birth certificate or other proof of U.S. Citizenship may be accepted.

For the following countries in Africa you only need a valid passport if you are a U.S. citizen:

Botswana

South Africa

Namibia

Kenya

Citizens of other countries might require a visa.

However U.S. Citizens do need visas for the following countries:

    Cameroon **
    Central Africa Republic **
    Tanzania *
    Zimbabwe *
    Zambia **

    Mozambique *

*These visas can be obtained at the port of entry by paying the required fee.

**Visas for these countries must be obtained before your arrival.
