Safety

Millions of U.S. citizens travel abroad each year. When you travel abroad the odds are in your favor that you will have a safe and incident-free trip. Our staff travels overseas yearly, averaging 2 trips per person. We have not experienced any problems. However, you need to know the latest political status and advisories for the country you plan to visit. You can get this by accessing the U.S. State Department web site www.state.gov. Access the information for the desired country and also obtain the phone number of the U.S. Embassy involved. It is always a good idea if you have any travel concerns to call the U.S. Embassy and request their advice.

The relative or friend you are visiting, hunting outfitter, lodge or business entity can also give you the latest status of travel concerns. The general safety begins when you pack for your trip:

  • always travel light
  • carry a minimum amount of valuables and conceal items such as passports, credit cards and cash in a pouch or money belt worn under your clothing
  • if you wear glasses, pack an extra pair
  • do not pack medicines in your check in luggage, put them in your carryon and keep them in the original labeled containers to avoid potential problems with customs people
  • minimize cash, use travelers checks and take the minimum number of credit cards
  • make a copy of your passport and carry a set of passport photos - carry these separately from the original passport
  • place your name, address and phone number inside your luggage
  • make a copy of your credit cards

To obtain additional information for your travel abroad, you can obtain the following pamphlets from the U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20420. Phone number:(202) 512-1800.
